Breaking the news: Mark Wright left Sam Faiers heartbroken after revealing he wants to make things work with Lauren Goodger
It was the series premiere everyone was waiting for, and The Only Way Is Essex certainly disappoint.
From Lydia Bright painting her pet pig Mr Darcy's toenails to Jessica Wright's plans for a breast enhancement, there were more than a few hilarious moments during the second series debut.
But perhaps the scenes viewers were most keen to see was the resolution of the Mark Wright love triangle.
Emotional: Mark found it difficult to find the right words to tell Sam how he felt on The Only Way Is Essex
Last season saw the renowned playboy heading off into the night with Sam Faiers, leaving ex girlfriends Lauren Goodger and Lucy Mecklenburgh both in tears.
However, it seems Mark may have had a change of heart as he was seen telling Sam he wouldn't be seeing her anymore because he wanted to give things a shot with Lauren.
To the backdrop of Adele's emotional track Someone Like You, Mark attempted to break the news to Sam but ended up 'beating around the bush' before managing to announce his plans.
Saying goodbye: After hearing his news, Sam gave Mark a hug before heading home
Heartbroken: Sam looked teary as she bid farewell to Mark
Sitting in a private area of Brentwood's Sugar Hut nightclub, Mark told Sam: 'I've seen other girls since I last met Lauren and me and you have got close and you know I've always got on with you.
'I just wanted this opportunity to say this to you because I feel that no girl deserves me to explain myself to them more than you do because you're more special than that.'
A clearly frustrated Sam urged Mark: 'Don't beat around the bush. So we don't talk after this, no?'
Hopeful: Mark apparently proposes to Lauren at a later point in the series
And Mark replied: 'I'm 24 now and I just want to change. I think I want to take it to the next step in the way of making a go of it with Lauren. I've been messing around for too long.'
Following Mark's rejection, Sam was seen walking off into the dark night looking dejected and upset.
Mark's surprise announcement that he wants to make things work with Lauren comes just days after it was revealed he will be seen proposing to Lauren at a later point in the series.
Family discussion: Lola bandmember Jess Wright asked her family's advice on getting a breast enhancement, but Mark was entirely against the idea
But as well as finding out the resolution of Mark's love triangle, viewers were treated to the return of all their favourite TOWIE characters - and some new faces as well.
While Amy Childs still wowed with her hilarious comments and ponderings on whether Kent is in south London, playboy bunny Chloe revealed Mark once sent her a naked photograph of himself.
And perhaps one of the most lovable characters in the show, James 'Arg' Argent, revealed his constant battle with his weight.
Trouble in paradise? James 'Arg' Argent and girlfriend Lydia argued about whether to move into the flat below Mark's apartment
New addition to the family: Arg and Lydia take their pet pig Mr Darcy for a walk in the woods
Seen looking absolutely terrified as he stood on the scales in front of Lydia and best mate Mark, Kirk revealed his weight is currently 17 stone 6lbs - meaning he has gained a staggering four stone since Christmas.
But Arg said he is determined to shed his excess pounds ahead of the summer, and enlisted Mark's help to get back into shape.
Arg is also seen in a bit of a battle with Mark and Lydia after announcing that he and Lydia would be moving in together.
Like mother, like son: Lydia painted Mr Darcy's toenails red to match her shoes
Matching: But the effect wasn't perhaps what Lydia had been anticipating
While Mark thought he had stumbled on the perfect result when he told Arg the flat below him was vacant, Lydia was less than happy with the prospect - even when Arg pointed out the amazing extractor fans housed in the apartment.
Lydia argued: 'No, I don't think it's going to work. How can you want to have a serious relationship and have your best mate living upstairs?'
However, later in the programme, Lydia eventually agreed to the prospect, on the condition that Arg learns to drive.
Weight battle: Arg revealed he wants to lose weight after putting on four stone since Christmas
As well as the familiar old faces on the second series, there were also some new characters, such as Amy's new boyfriend Joe Essex, Playboy star Chloe and Mr Darcy - the 'micro' pig Arg bought for Lydia last Christmas before realising it's actually a full-size farm animal.
The scenes with Mr Darcy were perhaps the funniest on the opening programme.
Lydia, who treats Mr Darcy as her 'first born son', was seen painting the pig's toenails to match her Christian Louboutin heels before a party, before taking him to the launch of Sam's boutique Minnie's, where he urinated on the floor.
The Only Way Is Essex continues on ITV2 next Wednesday at 10pm.
